Rotorua Lakes Council wants to provide Rotorua households with access to convenient, economical and sustainable waste services. Feedback has indicated that residents in Ngakuru, Upper Atiamuri and Horohoro are interested in receiving a waste collection service that is paid for through their rates.

The Rural Community Board were presented with a report on the rural waste consultation on 16 August, and made a recommendation that the Strategy, Policy & Finance Committee recommend that Council approve the extension of services, to start in early 2022.
Council’s Strategy, Policy & Finance committee has supported the extension of rural kerbside waste collections Ngākuru, Horohoro and Upper Ātiamuri, and recommended that Council approve the extending the service when it meets next week (28 October 2021).
Elected members voted to adopt the extension of the kerbside waste collection service to Ngākuru, Horohoro and Upper Ātiamuri.

On 28 October, elected members voted to adopt the extension of the kerbside waste collection service to Ngākuru, Horohoro and Upper Ātiamuri.
Households on sealed roads in Ngākuru, Horohoro and Upper Ātiamuri, will receive rubbish and recycling bins with an information booklet on how to use the service, in the coming months. The service is expected to start in these areas in mid-January 2022.
