FAQs
Why not just install rubber matting to stop issues with glass?
Rubber matting would cost about $57,000 to install. This means it would be significantly more expensive to replace it if was vandalised or damaged e.g. burned or cut.
Could a camera be installed?
Council has considered installing a temporary camera however, these are often targets for vandalism and will only deter issues while it's in place.
Why does the playground need bark or matting?
A playground requires safety fall material such as bark or rubber matting to ensure it meets New Zealand safety standards.
When will the playground be open?
Council wants to work with the community to help find solutions that will make Aorangi Reserve a safe space for tamariki to use. Council is engaging with local residents and schools to find suitable options. Council will update the community once those options have been decided.
