We need the community's help to decide the future of Aorangi Reserve in Susan Street.
In recent months council has been dealing with ongoing issues relating to vandalism. The main concern is the amount of broken glass left at the playground which causes a safety risk to local tamariki who use the area.
Council has considered a number of solutions which so far, have not resolved the issues. Those solutions include:
daily checks at the playground
alternative surfaces and replacing the current bark surface
temporary security cameras
Unfortunately these solutions can come at a significant cost and are not guaranteed to be safe from further acts of vandalism or damage.
In June 2021 council surveyed nearby residents about what they thought should happen with the playground. Council also engaged local schools, childcare centres and community groups to better understand what the community wants to see happen at Aorangi Reserve.
