The challenge of shaping our place and our people is one we all share and I thank all those who provided input and continue to make a contribution.
The Rotorua Way will focus on what makes Rotorua special – the district’s active environment, our strong Te Arawa culture and manaakitanga, the fantastic lifestyle we can enjoy and the diverse economic opportunities that exist here. Together, these make Rotorua a unique place in which to live, work and invest and to visit.
We also identified areas of opportunity which will help us to build on and further enhance those
strengths. We needed to identify what makes Rotorua special to provide clear direction and focus, to ensure that as our district grows we preserve and enhance what is critical to our community and to the
district’s ongoing success.
The Rotorua Way provides the direction for the next few years, guiding our long-term, annual and spatial plans and decision-making around key projects and initiatives. These future-focussed plans, key projects and initiatives are how we will deliver Vision 2030.

Strengths and opportunities in Rotorua - tell us your ideas!
about 7 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded. We believe the district has strengths in four distinct strands which, when combined, make Rotorua unique. Capturing what our real strengths are and identifying opportunities will help us build on our strengths to make our community stronger and our district better.
We have come up with some ideas for you to consider. You’ll find these in the Vision 2030 Refresh- The Rotorua Way discussion document (PDF). Please take a look and have your say.
What is your great idea to improve our lifestyle, environment and opportunities in Rotorua?
Jimabout 7 years agoFuel diesel council vehicles with bio-diesel
Z it's now making bio-diesel and if all the diesel utes and trucks the council own were filed up with this it would reduce the amount if fossil fuels we as a town use.
6Kauriiabout 7 years agoI suggest that our Council set a native tree fence in the Kauae Cemetery alongside the main road with small attractive tarata (lemonwood).

We have plentiful water relatively evenly distributed throughout the year, and it is not predicted to reduce with climate change. Instead of extending our water supply infrastructure, consider a different approach for new subdivisions - like Beachlands, each house collects rainwater from the roof and it's stored in a tank underground, filtered and pumped back into the house. This woul dmen better use of water, less demand for more drinking water from our spring supplies, less stormwater coming from these areas during rainfall events.
4Layla.Robinsonabout 7 years agoIndoor Skate Rink
The Sulphur City Steam Rollers have recently sent a proposal to the Rotorua Lakes Council regarding an indoor skate rink for our city. We feel that this would be an excellent addition to our already active city and complimentary to the hugely popular outdoor activity of mountain biking. It's not just the Steam Rollers who would use such a facility. It's the Rotorua Roller Skating Club, fledgling roller hockey groups and the general public who would get use out of it. In fact, with a rink in our city, both of the established skating clubs in Rotorua would have so much more room for growth and to introduce people to our healthy lifestyle. As mentioned in the proposal's cover letter, there is a very real threat that Tauranga could get a rink before Rotorua. This would be devastating! Rotorua's the perfect place for large-scale skating events (including a potential Roller Derby World Cup one day!) and it would be such a shame for our local people and businesses to miss out because we weren't quick off the mark. As always, I appreciate your time and patience while you read yet another skate rink rant from me! We would love to meet with the appropriate council staff or councilors to discuss this further. Hope to have a response to our proposal email soon. Cheers, Layla
