Making good decisions on your behalf, and leading the district’s future direction is a key role of a councillor.

As part of the Your Choice - 2022 Representation Review, we’re asking, “What is the 'right' number of councillors required to make good, sound decisions, that reflects effective leadership?”

We are allowed to have between 5 and 29 councillors (this excludes the Mayor).

The number of councillors we have should:
• Reflect our district’s diversity
• Ensure voters can easily engage with councillors
• Balance the workload of councillors
• Bring a range of skills and knowledge to the table
• And represent communities’ needs and interests across the district.

Our proposal for representation arrangements suggests we stick with 10 councillors.
We have had this number of councillors since 2016 and believe it serves Rotorua well.
What do you think? Have we got this number right?
