Transcript - ‘Your Choice – 2022 Representation Review’ - Proposed changes we need you to consider
As part of the ‘Your Choice – 2022 Representation Review’, Council has reviewed representation arrangements ahead of next year’s local government elections.
The model considered to most fairly and effectively represent Rotorua communities, is now out for consultation and we want your feedback.
We are proposing to keep some things the same, like having 10 councillors, 1 mayor and keeping the Lakes and Rural community boards.
However there are some proposed changes we need you to consider.
Such as:
• 2 Māori seats within a district wide Māori Ward, to be called Te Ipu Wai Taketake
• A district wide General Ward called Te Ipu Wai Auraki, with 4 councillor seats; and
• 4 ‘at large’ councillor seats to be elected from across the whole district.
If adopted, this proposal will change how you can vote, and who you can vote for, in next year’s election.
We’ll explain how this will work in an upcoming video.
