Council invite you to have your say on the future use of this part of Kuirau park.

Please share your thoughts in the survey by 12 June 2023.

This will help us understand what the community would like to see for this section of Kuirau Park in the near future.

Rotorua Lakes Council is trialing a six month road closure at Kuirau Park to preserve the recreational values and protect the natural environment of the reserve, while ensuring that the public can enjoy this reserve safely.

Earlier this year, repeated damage caused by vehicle use on the reserve affected nearby residents and the community and is detrimental to the natural environment.

In response to this, the trial road closure has been put in place so that Council can monitor the reserve and environments, and we would like to hear your thoughts on the trial road closure to help inform next steps.

The closure impacts the road section from the Tarewa Road entrance through to the central Kuirau Park roundabout (see map below).

Locked gates have been placed at either side of the road section as well as rocks surrounding the perimeter. These measures will be in place from December 2022 for the duration of the closure period. Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to access the area through the designated tracks, as well as cycle or walk along the closed road section.
