We want to hear your thoughts on how we ensure your voice is heard when making important decisions. We have a Significance and Engagement Policy that guides when and how we involve the community in decision-making. Every few years we look at this policy to make sure it still works for our community. We are looking at this now and we want to know your thoughts on how you have your say with Council.

Why we want your input:

We are asking for your opinion about when and how the Council involves you in decisions. Your feedback will be considered when updating this policy.

What the policy does:

The Significance and Engagement Policy helps the Council decide when a decision is significant and when we should involve the community. It ensures a consistent and transparent approach to decision-making.

What the policy covers:

The policy provides guidance on determining the significance of a decision and when and how to engage with the community. It also lists ‘strategic assets’ that the Council believes are important to the community but please note that this is not an exhaustive list of all council assets as there are various mechanisms that trigger consultation relating to assets.

Background on decision-making:

Some decisions, like long-term plans and certain bylaws, require consultation by law. For other matters, the council considers the significance of the decision to decide if community engagement is needed.

Key changes proposed:

Substantial changes have not been proposed. We have clarified how the council will engage with the community and made some wording changes for clarity.

What we want your feedback on:

We want to make sure we're involving the community appropriately in decisions, and are asking for your thoughts on this policy to ensure its up-to-date and in line with community expectations.

What do you think about this policy and is there anything else we need to consider?

We’re keen to hear from you.
