Dangerous, Affected and Insanitary Building Policy
Consultation has concluded
All territorial authorities are required to have a policy to deal with dangerous and insanitary buildings within its district in accordance with sections 131 and 132A of the Building Act. Policies must be reviewed at no more than 5 yearly intervals. The last review was undertaken in 2016.
A scheduled review of the current dangerous and insanitary building policy highlighted some procedural improvements and identified that the provision for dealing with affected buildings was not catered for.
Affected buildings will be incorporated into the proposed policy titled “Dangerous, Affected and Insanitary Buildings Policy”
The proposed dangerous, affected and insanitary building policy simplifies the procedures associated with actions completed in accordance with the Building Act. The amended procedure will result in the risk matrix/checklist in the current policy being encapsulated within Council’s quality system. This will mean minor changes to these tools can be made in a controlled manner without triggering a review of the policy each time.
The 'Dangerous, Affected and Insanitary Building Policy' was passes by Council on Thursday 30th April.
